The Lodick Family

The Lodick's are a young married couple that are ready to ditch the 70's, hand-me-down look for a more elegant and romantic living room. They are looking for something that better reflects their personalities and lifestyles. Mrs. Lodick is a high school mathematics teacher and Mr. Lodick is a computer scientist/programmer.

What's in a Dream Room

Now that you know about the family and what they would like to see happen to their room, it is time to decide on a theme or vision. The only restriction is that your vision must be practical and realistic.

Required Components:

How Much Is Too Much?

Before you go shopping, you will need to decide how much of certain items you will need.

For help with paint & wallpaper estimates, check out the web sites below:

Even though the sites above are very helpful, you are still required to explain/justify your paint/wallpaper purchases. In other words, area and surface area formulas should be used and be included in your final product.

Graph paper will be very helpful for designing. You can get some from Home & Garden Television.

It's Time to Shop

While shopping, you must complete The Shopping Log.

Good places to start shopping are:

Or, check out your favorite store's web site.

*Items from auction sites (like eBay) are only allowed at the buy price. Bidding will not be accepted.

The Shopping Log

     To download The Shopping Log:

    1. Click here
    2. Select Save As from the File Menu after the file opens
    3. Name the file: SL_name (where name is one of your team member's name)
    4. Be sure to save after each item is added to your Shopping Log

Every item you would intend to purchase (remember you cannot really buy anything) needs to appear in The Shopping Log.

Store Name i.e., Wal-Mart, Target, etc.
Web site. The exact web site. of the item. Copy the address bar of the window and paste it right into your Shopping Log.
Item Give a 1 - 2 word title of the item (i.e., table lamp, coffee table, etc.)
Picture/Description

Pictures are always better! Right click on the picture and select save as a one word title. Save the file to your disk. Go into your Shopping Log in the space for the picture, then select Insert a Picture from File under the Insert Menu. Select your picture from your disk. You will need to shrink the picture so it fits nicely in your Shopping Log.

If you cannot find a picture, give a brief detailed description of the item.

Price What is the price for 1 item (excluding tax and shipping & handling)?
Quantity How many are you buying?
Cost This is the Price x the Quantity.

Sticking to That $1000 Budget

Your Total COst cannot be over $1000! It is helpful to keep a running total as you shop. If you find that you have gone over $1000, you will need to decide between what you need and what you want and then take some of the items off of your Shopping Log.

The Final Product

Your final product must be presented in a creative way so that the teacher and your classmates can also see your vision for the room.

Some suggestions to present you design include (but are not limited to):

Reflection

Individually write about your experience while participating in this WebQuest. Include topics such as the art and math components of the WebQuest, working with your team members, work divided up between your team, improvements for this WebQuest, and anything else you would like to include.
